Explosion On Worksite Results In The Death Of A California Employee

A workplace accident from November 2013 has resulted in the death of an Aerojet employee.

Almost five whole months after a workplace explosion at Aerojet Rocketdyne’s campus in Rancho Cordova, California, one of the injured employees has lost his life. The accident remains under investigation after the man, 54, passed away at the UC Davis medical center, according to Sacramento County records.

The employee had worked for Aerojet, a rocket-engine manufacturer, for approximately 33 years. However, on November 19, 2013, the blast shook up the entire Aerojet complex, located off Highway 50, just before 8 a.m. Two employees were injured in the catastrophe. While one was unable to survive the incident, the other was treated for less severe injuries.

After the accident, emergency personnel rushed to the scene. However, it did not take long before investigators determined that the explosion was the result of an industrial accident. As a result, the case was submitted to the California Division of Occupational Safety (Cal/OSHA).

Before his death, the injured worker suffered from burns and other injuries, according to his death certificate. The cause of death was noted as a “hemorrhagic cerebrovascular accident,” which is another term for a stroke.

Months later, the incident continues to baffle employees and local residents. Nevertheless, Cal/OSHA is continuing to uncover exactly what happened. Because an employee was a casualty of the blast, the investigation could result in penalties that are much more serious.

Workplace accidents and workers’ compensation

Worksite accidents can occur in a blink of an eye. Nevertheless, in incidents like the one above, it can take ample time before investigators decipher the root of an industrial mishap. In many cases, safety violations are the cause of serious worksite accidents.

The good news is that if you or a loved one has suffered from a workplace accident, you may be entitled to benefits under the workers’ compensation system. The system provides financial benefits to those injured on the job. Injured employees in California are entitled to reasonable medical treatment needed to rehabilitate a specific work injury, repetitive stress injury, repetitive strain injury or continuous trauma. Moreover, in some cases, monetary recovery is available for the surviving family of an employee lost in a fatal disaster.

To learn more about workers’ compensation and how to facilitate recovery after a workplace accident, speak with an attorney in the area. As you take time away from work to recover, you deserve financial support. A lawyer versed in the law can help assess injuries and configure benefit options.
